How to Launch a Sportsbook: A Step-by-Step Checklist

Launching a sportsbook takes more than picking a platform. This checklist walks through the decisions most new operators face, in the order they usually come up.

1. Define your market

Start with who your players are and where they are. The market determines almost everything else: the sports and leagues you need to cover, the languages and currencies of the site, the payment methods players expect and the regulatory requirements you must meet.

Get legal advice for each jurisdiction you plan to operate in. Licensing, KYC and anti-money-laundering obligations vary widely between markets.

2. Choose your platform

The platform is the foundation. Look for:

  • A player site and bet slip that work on every device.
  • Player Account Management with balances, limits and activity monitoring.
  • Trading tools: risk management, lines manager, automated line movement and automatic grading.
  • Multi-language and multi-currency support if you will operate across regions.
  • Multi-brand support if you plan more than one brand.

Ask about the business model as well. A commission-free platform means your revenue stays yours as you grow.

3. Set up payments

Decide how players will deposit and withdraw. Many operators combine cryptocurrency payments with traditional methods and credit card processing partners. The cashier should give you full visibility of balances, payouts and transactions.

4. Plan your integrations

Integrations expand what you offer and how players spend time on your site: casino games, live betting, payment providers, affiliate platforms and analytics tools. Check which integrations your platform supports out of the box and how new ones are added.

5. Prepare the infrastructure

Sportsbook traffic peaks around big events. Make sure the platform runs on dedicated servers, behind DDoS protection, on an architecture that scales. Agree on who manages servers, databases and domains, and what the support response times are.

6. Configure and test

Before opening, configure the platform: domains and environments, limits, lines, sports and markets, cashier and brand. Test the full player journey, from sign-up to deposit, bet, grading and payout.

7. Launch and grow

On launch day, monitor activity closely with real-time reports. After launch, use analytics to understand player behavior, adjust limits and lines, and decide which integrations or brands to add next.
